Pacific Education

Pacific Ed is a UK-based charity committed to addressing the double challenge of hunger and poor education in Timor-Leste, beginning with the rural district of Liquiçá. We believe that no child should have to choose between an empty stomach and an empty future.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between people in vulnerable communities and their fundamental rights to nourishment and learning.

In Timor-Leste, nearly half the population lives in rural areas where schools are underfunded, understaffed, and often unreachable. Children walk long distances to classrooms that have no meals, no qualified teachers, and no basic supplies. Chronic food insecurity and a lack of educational access fuel a cycle of poverty that continues from childhood into adulthood.

Pacific Ed will deliver an integrated, community-based solution. We will begin by providing school meals in under-resourced schools to improve attendance, concentration, and health. We will support teachers by supplying learning materials, and introduce adult literacy and job-skills training. To reduce physical barriers, we will offer bicycles and organise school transport. Additionally, food banks and delivery options will provide ongoing support to families in the most fragile circumstances.

Our vision is a future where no child goes hungry, young people can reach their full potential, and every nation prioritises feeding the most vulnerable.
